When we opened our doors in January of 2004 little did we realize so many years later the growth this company would achieve. A company that has withstood the test of time for so many years. It seems as if the entire world has changed so much, but one thing that hasn't changed is our passion and love for flowers! When we say everything has changed, we mean everything.
All those years ago we would mail (that’s with a stamp!) quotes to brides rather than email. All flowers were purchased from local wholesalers in smaller quantities rather than in bulk from the growers and farms instead. Most arrangements encompass roses and some baby’s breath rather than all types of eucalyptus, lilies, tropical flowers, dried/bleached material and so forth. Florals for weddings were primarily church weddings and receptions versus today’s bridal trends of barn venues and new elaborate sites.
Mill Street Florist started with a little dream and a lot of prayers. What started as a hobby in our garage quickly grew into a business requiring several thousand square feet, amazing designers, and skilled delivery people. Our building space and staff size has continually changed, but our love of flowers and design has remained steadfast.
Mill Street Florist is a family business that is owned by Shayne and Karen Daugherty. Karen is the primary operator of Mill Street Florist and runs the day to day business with Shayne assisting when time permits. Karen is a 1993 graduate of Converse College with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Interior Design. During her years at Converse she worked at a local flower shop where she fostered her love of flowers and design. Working in the business world for several years after college she worked in her garage building her floral business and, after much prayer, she decided to take a leap of faith and pursue flowers full time. On January 2, 2004 we opened our doors for business and Mill Street Florist was born!
Shayne is a 1993 graduate of Wofford College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. He currently serves as the Principal of Abner Creek Academy in Spartanburg School District Five. Shayne is excited to help when time permits.
The Lord blessed us with our daughter Cora in December, 2014. She is usually around the flower shop and loves trying her hand at designing, painting and drawing. Never far from her side is our golden retriever named Poppy! We also have 2 more fur baby’s named Calla and Marie.
As we continue to evolve and grow we also strive to keep up with the current trends of today’s market.
We love what we do and are blessed to be able to do it!
